100 Thousand Poets for Change Presents: Women Speak!
September 29 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pmFree
***NOTE: Only women and nonbinary people will be allowed on the open mic stage. Men and others are welcomed to attend as a listening audience.***
This year, 100 Thousand Poets for Change San Antonio’s organizer, Viktoria Valenzuela, is calling forward all strength of the women and nonbinary people of San Antonio, Texas. Please join this very special event because each year, since 2011, Valenzuela has gathered poets and guest speakers from every corner of the city (and as far away as Chicago, McAllen, Denver) to join the stage. Every Poet Laureate of San Antonio has joined at one point or another us in calling for peace, justice, and sustainability on all the important issues –and we’ve made a difference. We’ve created new relationships and collaborations that have brightened the city in art, music, and poetry. I’m very proud of the work created here.
This year’s show is brought to you by organizer Viktoria Valenzuela, with the help of the Arts and Culture department of the city of San Antonio, and Gemini Ink.
We will sharpen our theme to focus on the power of women and nonbinary voice in our art community of San Antonio. This show is just for us, by us. We are no one’s muse. We are no one’s victim. We are the backbone of all that happens here. Influenced by the MeToo and TimesUp movements, 100 Thousand Poets for Change San Antonio: Women Speak! is an open mic event calling for your empowered voice in sisterhood. This is how we bring each other through.
