Alamo Group of the Sierra Club monthly meeting

March 20 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

The monthly meeting of the Alamo Group of the Sierra Club will screen most of the documentary, “Dirt! The Movie,” (Sundance selection, 2009). This film is remarkably relevant to San Antonio’s Climate Action and Adaptation Planning process, because it addresses many related issues:

  • preventable sources of greenhouse gasses, & the carbon footprint of food,
  • destruction of dirt in extraction of fossil fuels and other “natural resources,”
  • impervious cover and problems caused by inappropriate gray infrastructure,
  • the connection between dirt, green infrastructure and essential water,
  • urban agriculture, urban forests and carbon sequestration, green jobs & other economic value of low impact development, and especially,
  • the importance of protecting and improving dirt for resilience in the face of climate change.

A lively discussion after the screening should provide lots of great ideas for the Climate Action working groups to consider as they begin their work that week.
