Diversity of Faiths: How They Influence Health with Rajam Ramamurthy @SoL Center

Explore how faith has influenced the health of a population for centuries, and question its relevance, examining how faith might still influence individual and community health today. Instructor’s opening statements are followed by audience participation and exploration of certain health practices of various faiths. Additional topics explored will be 1) Maternal Mortality and 2) Opioid Epidemic, and how faith might influence addressing these issues.
Dr. Rajam Ramamurthy is Professor Emeritus, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, having spent 37 years in the Department of Pediatrics. She held the Rita and William Head Endowed Distinguished Professorship and was also Director of the Premature Infant Development program. In 1982, she was a founder of the Arathi School of Indian Dance, the first Indian dance school in the city, and is still active in teaching. She is a founding member of the Interreligious Council of San Antonio. Inducted into the San Antonio Woman’s Hall of Fame in 1984, she was named 2017 “Peace Laureate” of San Antonio, an honor bestowed by the peaceCENTER San Antonio.
