Healing Justice Film Screening & Community Workshop

May 22, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Martinez Street Women’s Center in partnership with American Indians in Texas and My Brother’s Keeper SA invite community to join us in screening the powerful and transformative film, Healing Justice. Produced by World Trust and directed by Dr. Shakti Butler, this documentary dives deep into historical oppression, adverse childhood experiences, and systemic racism revealing the truth about the school-to-prison-pipeline, the need for comprehensive criminal justice reform, and the importance of healing and restorative practices.

As part of the Restorative Practices movement in the greater San Antonio Area, MSWC, AIT and MBKSA have embarked in building coalitions around trauma-informed practices and healing in the educational system. This screening includes a series of workshops that will facilitate conversations aimed at bridging gaps in our understanding of historical and collective trauma.

TRIGGER WARNING:
This film contains content that can trigger traumatic past-experiences and discomfort due to privilege, which is part of unpacking the impact that systemic oppression has on all races, genders, and social classes. We request folks to show up, be present, and be brave in this space in order to gain understanding, promote healing, and embrace transformation.
