Muslims and Sikhs in Today’s America

March 22, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Register by March 15

Join Sarwat Husain and Simran Jeet Singh, Ph.D., in a much needed discussion of the realities and possibilities facing Muslim and Sikh communities in the United States today. This discussion will explore the basic tenets and worldviews of each tradition. Learn how each might navigate, contribute to, and transform the shape of America in 2017 and beyond. The experiences of Husain and Singh, as activists, teachers, and leaders of inter-religious dialogue, will also inform the conversation.

Sarwat Husain, a National Public Speaker for Islam and Muslims, is the co-founder and co-chair of the American Muslim Democratic Caucus. Formerly, she served eight years as the Vice Chair of Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) National Board of Directors. An award-winning advocate for human rights and cross-cultural understanding, she is extensively involved in inter-religious dialogue. Her op-ed writing can be found in the SA Express News.

Simran Jeet Singh, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Trinity University. He is the Senior Religion Fellow for the Sikh Coalition and a Truman Fellow for the Truman National Security Project. Dr. Singh’s recent scholarship examines xenophobia, racial profiling and hate violence in post 9/11 America. He has become a consistent expert for reporters and news outlets across the world.
