Pub Theology: Immigration Update w/ Rev. Webb & Dr. Boursier

October 10, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Rev. Natalie Webb is the pastor of Covenant Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX. She’s also a doctoral candidate at Baylor University, studying New Testament, and she’s a co-founder of Nevertheless She Preached, a grassroots celebration of women in the pulpit and church leadership. Over the past 2 years, Natalie has led Covenant Baptist to become a “sanctuary church”, and she currently serves as the co-chair of the San Antonio Sanctuary Network. This year, Covenant Baptist has had the opportunity to befriend, assist, and learn from asylum-seekers from Central America (mothers and children seeking reunification), Mexico (a victim of kidnapping), and Africa (fleeing political persecution). In her free time, Natalie enjoys playing superheroes with her 3-year-old son, Dominic, and watching reality TV and/or talking theology with her husband, Brandon.

Rev. Dr. Helen Boursier [Bor-SEE-ay] has been a volunteer chaplain with refugee families seeking asylum since 2014, including two years inside the immigrant family detention center in Karnes City where she facilitated art as spiritual care 2-3 days a month with the detained families (2015-2016). She has a Ph.D. in practical theology and was the organizing and senior pastor of Community Fellowship Presbyterian Church in New Braunfels, TX (2007-2015). Dr. Boursier teaches religious and theological studies online at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. She speaks, writes, and advocates for refugees and migrants, and she has two books with Lexington Press forthcoming in 2019 related to her work with refugee families. She created a traveling art installation, The Power of Hope, which highlights the art witness of the detained families.
