Reversing the Pipeline to Prison in Texas — Restorative Justice
February 6 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us for a student-led discussion about effective alternatives to harsh discipline policies that impact thousands of Texas students.
The student activists of San Antonio ISD and beyond, Texas Criminal Justice Coalition, San Antonio Teachers Alliance and Support Personnel, and the American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions invite you to a critical convening on school discipline and youth justice. Join us for a student-led discussion about effective alternatives to harsh discipline policies that impact thousands of children in Texas schools.
This convening will bring together students and experts from across Bexar County to imagine a Texas that ensures safe schools AND safe students.
Here we will release the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition’s new report on restorative justice as an alternative to over-policing in schools, and we will host a panel including scholars who have led the charge in securing student rights in SAISD in recent months.
We encourage representatives of schools, courts, law enforcement agencies, and other related agencies to attend this event. Together, we want to jumpstart a community-wide planning process for developing and implementing strategies that will reduce the number of students arrested, expelled, suspended, and referred to court for misbehavior incidents at school.
This event is FREE to the public. Please reserve your spot on Eventbrite by clicking “get tickets” or going to the link below so we know to expect you!
