Shine: A Night to Shine Light on the School to Prison Pipeline

February 9, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

SA Heals and the Light Catchers Society are hosting SHINE: A Night to Shine Light on the School to Prison Pipeline. We are hoping to bring awareness and action to help create a better future for the kids facing challenges in our schools and in our country. One of these challenges is known as the “School to Prison Pipeline,” which emphasizes how a school can increase the likelihood of a child eventually becoming a part of the prison system, by, instead of providing additional educational and counseling services, focusing more on isolation and punishment.

The night will be highlighted by the photo exhibit created by 6th grade students from Washington Elementary on the eastside of San Antonio who are part of the Light Catchers Society. The students have been using photography, not only as a way to document the life and beauty of their neighborhood, but also as a way to communicate messages that may affect them and/or their community.
