Sound the Alarm! Volunteers needed to help prevent residential fires
May 12 @ 8:00 am - 2:30 pmFree
Did you know that, on average, 7 people in the U.S. die every day as a result of residential fires?
That’s over 200 people a month dying from something that a smoke alarm could prevent. The problem? Not every home has smoke alarms installed.
The Red Cross San Antonio Chapter believes that everyone should have smoke alarms installed in their homes and are working diligently to install over 1,000 alarms in 350 San Antonio residences, BUT they need your help!
When: May 12th
Where: Between St. Mary’s University and Woodlawn Lake
Who: VOLUNTEERS ONLY (please do not request a smoke alarm at this time). Individuals, Families (children under age 18 are welcome with parental supervision) company teams, etc.
There are 3 ways you can help the day of:
Installer: The installer works with the team to install the smoke alarm(s) in the appropriate areas using a drill.
Educator: While the smoke alarm is being installed, the educator teaches the family how to work the alarm, helps them create a home fire escape plan, and shares fire safety tips as well as any other disaster preparedness tips for hazards in their areas (e.g.floods).
Documenter/TeamLead: The documenter/team lead fills out the necessary paperwork, maintains accountability for that paperwork, assists the installer as needed, and ensures a productive and informative home visit.
