On Thursday, June 11, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics invites you to join a virtual discussion featuring five San Antonio faith leaders on racism, hope, and moral progress after the Killing of George Floyd.

The online discussion and dialogue will be led by:

Dr. Kenneth Kemp, MD, Senior Pastor of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church,

Dr. Claudette Copeland, Pastor Emeritus of the New Creation Christian Fellowship

Rabbi Mara Nathan, Senior Rabbi of Temple Beth-El Reform Jewish Synagogue

Imam Omar Adib Shakir, Resident Imam at Masjid Bilal Ibn Rabah of San Antonio

The death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police has led to protests against police brutality and racial injustice across our nation, including here in South Texas. Some protests have become violent, with police, protestors, and “outside agitators” all accused of inciting violence. In light of these events, good-hearted people are struggling to find a way forward. What are South Texans of color experiencing in this crisis, and what role do white Texans have in bringing forth a better world? How can we as a larger community ensure that justice and opportunity are made available for all South Texans? What practical steps can we take to wring moral and social progress from this crisis? The Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics is proud to partner with Antioch Baptist Church and Temple Beth-El to bring together faith leaders who draw on the wisdom traditions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to help us all reason, re-build and re-imagine a more just America.
