When Religion Becomes Noise w/ Dr. Isaac Weiner @TrinityU
March 26 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Dr. Isaac Weiner is Associate Professor in the Comparative Studies Department at Ohio State University. His research focuses on freedom of speech and expressions of religious faith, particularly the sounds, sights, and performances that can accompany the practice of religion. He is the author of Religion Out Loud: Religious Sounds, Public Space, and American Pluralism (2014), which analyzes the politics of religious pluralism in the US by attending to disputes about sound in the public sphere.
In this talk Prof. Weiner will offer some tentative reflections on what public disputes about religious sound teach us about the challenges of negotiating religious diversity and about who we are as Americans.
