BLESSING OF THE PEACEMAKERS  Sunday, 27 January, 3-5PM @Whitley Center, Oblate School of Theology

. . . is a grassroots movement that promotes, supports and celebrates San Antonio’s commitment to be a world-class compassionate city: one where the civic government, the religious and volunteer organizations, the businesses, the community and its educational institutions come together to recognize the importance and value of compassion in the life of a city and by doing so create an ethos of compassion and a safety net for its most vulnerable citizens. #compassionateSA

“Compassionate San Antonian” Award

Mayor Nirenberg has kicked off a program to honor San Antonio-area residents who demonstrate San Antonio’s #CompassionateSA values, recognizing individuals who serve our community through acts of kindness and compassion, making a difference in the lives of others.

THE CHARTER FOR COMPASSION

. . is an international initiative to restore compassionate action to the center of religious, moral and political life. Compassion is the principled determination to put ourselves in the shoes of the other, and lies at the heart of all religious and ethical systems.

TOWARDS A GLOBAL ETHIC: the five directives

The Global Ethic developed by the Parliament of World Religions is uniquely special for its articulation of shared moral principles found broadly across both historic and new religious and spiritual traditions. And it is profound in its simplicity.

Representatives of all the world’s religions agreed that there are common ethical commitments foundational to each of their traditions:

  • Human beings should be treated humanely
  • The Golden Rule of reciprocity
  • A commitment to peace and justice
  • A commitment to a Culture of Sustainability and Care for the Earth
